As you've probably discovered, it takes some practice to get used to navigating the world of SL.
Some of the most popular tutorials made for SL are by Torley Linden. These can be found on the Second Life Showcase or on Torley's You Tube channel. Go to the Showcase and select the Browse tab. Then choose "beginners" from the drop-down. Watch a few videos that interest you!
